So I don’t know the difference between the three – except that a pool table is way smaller than a snooker table….(I could also be wrong about this!). But being entirely clueless about it doesn’t mean we can’t make cupcakes resembling them.
A customer walked in and wanted to get this for her husband’s birthday. Our kitchen team only had 2 days to make it happen and they managed to magically whip up something pretty awesome (IMHO). I was clueless about the order until the customer had picked it up, thankfully – our team snapped a couple of shots with their camera phone and apparently, the customer was totally stoked with the result. I mean, 2 days notice!!! Not too shabby at all.
P.s. The cake resembling the table was so huge that our pastry chef had to creatively make his own cake board by going to the hardware store and cutting plywood according to size and covering it with foil. Kudos to the kitchen team!

My husband was a natural sanguine – I used “was” because somehow, over the years – we seem to have swapped personalities. Isn’t that the case when you spend 24/7 with one another?

Anyway, I have to admit I was really quite nervous about the session with the bunch of Her World readers. When it comes to cupcake decorating, I’m fine with kids. After all, their hardest questions are “What is YOUR favourite colour?” and “Can I put the silver balls now?”….and nowhere near as critical as an adult could be. Putting aside my nervousness after an organizer told me that the “chef” is to demonstrate up front, (what chef? I’m no pastry chef, just a person that loves to bake & decorate cupcakes)….I decided to just relax and play everything by ear.

The session was quite interactive as I demonstrated four cupcakes to decorate and showed how easy it was to make the cupcakes. I could hear the resounding “OH! So easy wan ar! “ so I know the session was well received and they could go off knowing that anyone can decorate a cupcake! (Now baking, that’s another thing altogether!).

One of our partnerships is with The Wedding Guide Asia, founded by Stephanie Chai, a local celebrity who is madly gorgeous yet tremendously down-to-earth.

Her good friend and former Miss Malaysia, Wong Sze Zen is about to walk down the aisle this coming June and they celebrated her hen’s night in sunny Singapore. The theme for it was “Animal print”….so we crazy cupcake people at Cupcake Chic decided to go with the theme (gladly not having to do “naughty cupcakes”) and went wild with tiger, zebra, leopard, giraffe, cow-with-brown-spots, cow-with-black-spots cupcakes.
We had heaps of fun using fondant to make the tops of these cupcakes. We included a caption on the cupcakes depicting the 6 ladies celebrating the event. Stephanie Chai is otherwise known as “Lady Boss”. No prizes for guessing who “Bridezilla” is though.

Meredith McLean has been a customer of Cupcake Chic even way before we set up our first retail outlet in The Curve. Her ideas for our customized cupcakes are usually pretty unconventional which makes it all the more interesting for us.

The theme this time around is a gambling/money theme for “Lucky #7” who happens to be her father-in-law.

We came up with some poker chips, gold chocolate coins, dice, USD100 (wouldn’t it be great if they were real!), and lots of #7 all over.

Unfortunately, these photos were taken in the dark and with a camera phone so they don’t come up that nice. I have to say that it was quite fun planning for this. Thanks for your incredible support and encouragement through the years, Meredith!

When parents throw a birthday bash for their littlies, we are usually asked to come up with bright, colourful cupcake designs befitting to a “kids” theme. Not this special couple – Tania Khan & Gabriel Mustaqim for their 3 year old Omar.

Tania has been a long time customer of Cupcake Chic, her favourite being Onde-Onde cupcakes (if you haven’t tried our cupcake version of this local delicacy, you have seriously been missing out!). She often calls ahead for us to pack a dozen Onde-Onde cupcakes and swing by to pick them up at our Curve outlet. In case you are wondering who Tania is – she was our Malaysian representative in The Amazing Race Asia (Season 3). She did brilliantly….. even though she was actually pregnant at the time!

So when Omar turns 3, a big bash is thrown for him with a “Safari” theme. His stylish parents didn’t go for kiddie themed cupcakes, but instead – went for something simple, yet uber-chic. Cupcakes with Omar’s initials (OMK) and small gold dragees were given out to guests as birthday favors finished off with specially printed grosgrain ribbons. Khaki colours all round, who would have thought it’s for a 3 year old eh?
