Save-the-date cupcakes

In the western world, the prelude to invitation cards are “Save the date” cards. These cards are sent out just after you are engaged and as soon as you have decided on a date for your big day. There is a similar Chinese tradition that is still being practiced (although not as widely) where you give little sweet treats with your invitation cards. The commonly used sweet treat is called “Lo Po Peng” or it’s literal translation which means “wife biscuits”. I didn’t think that this was practiced here in Malaysia (admittedly, I was not a traditional bride 7 years ago) but I am clearly mistaken.

The modern twist is to hand out cupcakes instead of the traditional biscuits. The chic-er way too, don’t you think? Here we present to you, “save the date” cupcakes for Megan & Nick who will be tying the knot soon. We printed the motifs taken from their wedding theme on edible sugar frosting sheets and placed them on the cupcakes with tiny beads as borders. An uber-stylish couple, they even went to the extent of printing special sleeves for the boxes to be handed out. Stay tuned as we grace their wedding day with wedding cupcakes on the 27th of March 2010.

Hi Sesilia, the box you saw on the Save the Date blog page was specially printed by the wedding couple themselves to display their names. Cupcake Chic however, made the cupcakes you see in the picture – with the “Nick” and “Megan” printed on the top of the cupcake.
