A Fresh New Start

Category: Blog

Ben and familyIt’s been over two years since I last blogged for Cupcake Chic. Back in the hey days when I was baking out of a little kitchen that I setup in SS2 (where I now place my office – right next to those ovens!) and making lovely cupcakes for my lovely customers (who have since become good friends!), I actually had time to blog. I can hardly believe how much has changed and taken place in that time and as a result, blogging has not been at the top of my to-do lists.

But hey, I need an outlet and we are on to a brand new year AND launching a brand new website. so what better time than to start a brand new blog. And since it’s the first blog entry, I figured I’ll be a little self-indulgent and blog first and foremost about …. me. So bear with me here, I promise this will be the only time.

As with all new years, I’d start to reflect back on whether 2009 has been a good year or a bad year. In all honesty, I have to say that it has been a very tough year for me on a personal level. I have been stretched beyond what I would have thought is a reasonable amount for any human being to have to endure and still remain sane (although some may argue that point of sanity with me). But yet it has also been a year of amazing discovery – that I really am a very resilient person and my ability to keep bouncing back from each tough situation is something to be reckoned with. Situations I never thought I could climb out of…but I did. Along comes 2010, and guess what? I-AM-STILL-STANDING. The thing with me is that I have always dreamt big and disappointments after disappointments later, I find that I never stop dreaming. I will never keep striving to be better, to be the best at what I do and to keep reaching for the stars.

To sum up who I am, is really to sum up what is passionate to me. I asked a couple of friends to describe me…and I think one of them said it quite well: Joanne is passionate about three things. Her God, her family and her cupcakes. That’s pretty much it. I spend all my time in these three areas and even then – I feel there’s never quite enough time to do it all and do it well, but I will keep trying.

My God is my first love, always and forever, and while I have had to ease off some of my responsibilities in church to take on this business that God has given me, He is always who I turn to the minute I hit a stumbling block or enjoy a victorious streak. He is my provider and my all.

I’m madly in love with my family (my three boys including my better half), although as every working mother would agree, that it is no easy task to bring up your kids while juggling a full time career. It has been challenging to say the least but they really are my biggest blessings and joy and they are the reason I can’t wait to go home each day. Some days, I come home to find them sleeping and just to watch over them and gently pray over them is the perfect end to chaotic day.

No doubt, I am passionate about the cupcakes that come out from our ovens day in, day out that you, our fans enjoy. I strive constantly to make sure that one day, we are, without a doubt in anyone’s mind – the most adored cupcakes in Malaysia and around the region.

With that, I leave a little quote that sums up how I choose to live : “It’s your future. The only limits are the limits of your imagination. Dream up the kind of world you want to live in – dream out loud, at high volume”. – by Bono. Now, on to the more interesting topic….CUPCAKES!
